RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) -Â A school bus carrying 18 students was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Tuesday, according to the Rantoul Police Department.
According to Rantoul police, officers responded to a report of a crash involving a Rantoul Township High School (RTHS) school bus at the intersection of Champaign Ave. and Century Blvd., Rantoul around 2:06 p.m.Â
Upon their arrival, officers discovered that the school bus had collided with a Toyota sedan in the intersection.
Police said that after the initial impact, the school bus veered over the curb and into the parking lot of a nearby business, where it struck an unoccupied Tesla sedan before coming to a stop.
The Rantoul Fire Department and Arrow Ambulance responded to the scene.
One of the RTHS students was transported to the hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries. The other students on the bus reported no injuries.
The driver of the Toyota, 22-year-old Brandon Ruiz-Garcia from Loda, was treated and released at the scene.
RTHS administration arrived promptly to ensure all students were safely transferred to alternative transportation.
Officer said Ruiz-Garcia was issued a citation for Failure to Yield.
