URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — Monday afternoon, Carle Foundation Hospital hosted a flag raising to commemorate Veteran's Day.

Veterans and citizens alike joined each other in prayer in front of the Carle Foundation Hospital Heart and Vascular Institute.

Eric Swenson is a Strategic planning Coordinator for Carle Health Strategy and development, as well as the Co-Lead of the Carle Health Military and Veteran Professionals group.

"This really is a statement on behalf of Carle Health to our military community, to our service members, to our veterans," explained Swenson, "We respect you, that we're grateful to you for your service to our country. And that when you walk in the door to any Carle Health Clinic or Hospital, it's our turn to serve you and to give you the best possible health care."

Swenson, a Military veteran, also had the opportunity to speak to the crowd about the significance of the 13 folds of the American flag.

"Every part of the flag means something special, and that's something that all of us veterans and service members recognize and hold in our hearts. And, Veterans Day is an opportunity to share the meaning of each of those folds, each of those parts of the flag, with everyone here who's willing to listen and join us." said Swenson.
