MACON, Ill. (WAND) — The man that was shot and arrested by police in Macon last weekend after stealing a squad car and pointing a shotgun at officers has been identified.

38 year old Oscar M. McCurry was charged with 3 felonies, the Macon County Sheriffs Office confirmed.

The charges are:

  • Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon
  • Aggravated battery on a peace officer
  • Murder/intent to kill/injure

He was also previously convicted on a domestic battery charge in June of 2024.

According to police, McCurry was wielding a machete in the P&V gas station parking lot last Saturday, May 3.
