URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — A Guatemalan national has pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed two women earlier this year.
According to Champaign County court records, 29-year-old Julio Cucul Bol has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the following charges on October 24:
- Twenty-six years for aggravated driving under the influence in a crash resulting in death.
- Four years each for two counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury crash resulting in death.
- Four years for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.
- Eight years for aggravated driving under the influence.
The sentences for the two counts of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in injury, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death will run concurrently with each other and consecutively with the 26-year sentence. The eight-year aggravated DUI sentence will run concurrently with the 26-year sentence.
Cucul Bol will receive credit for 267 days already served, per court records.
Police say the crash happened on January 19 at the intersection of University Avenue and Coler Avenue in Urbana.
Investigators say Cucul Bol was driving a Mitsubishi Outlander when he rear-ended a Honda Civic that had slowed for a traffic light.
Five people were inside the Honda. Two of them, 21-year-old Chloe Polzin and 20-year-old Katherine J. Abraham, died from their injuries. The remaining passengers also suffered injuries in the crash.
Police say Cucul Bol fled the scene without stopping. He was later arrested in Milford, Texas, about an hour south of Dallas, by the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities say he initially provided a false name at the time of his arrest.
