Deadline looms as central Illinois taxpayers scramble to file returns on time

Decatur, Ill (WAND) – April 15th is tax day. Your state and federal returns need to be filed by midnight Wednesday evening.

Tricia Harmon of Liberty Tax on Pershing Road in Decatur said there have been numerous customers coming in to get their taxes filed. She expects to work late into the night on the 15th for those who have waited until the last minute.

“They are very, very frantic at this point to get everything done and ready to go and sent off to the IRS so they don’t get into trouble,” Harmon told WAND News on Tuesday. “We have the ones that we know are going to be coming in later. But that’s ok, we’re here to help everybody.”

Harmon said her office will take in walk-in customers on the final day. She expects to be working right up to the midnight deadline. Refunds take about 21 days for the IRS to process.
