DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — ADM announced on Tuesday that they would be shedding up to 700 roles in the company, including roughly 150 unfilled positions.
ADM is Decatur's largest employer, accounting for 4,000 jobs.
Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe said the community could be able to feel the impact greatly. "We still don't know the number of people in this area that will be affected. But we are their largest plant with the biggest number of employees, so I'm sure it's going to be a significant layoff."
In their 2024 Earnings Conference Call, CEO Juan Luciano said that the decision was made in efforts to save money. "Decisions impacting our team members are never easy to make, and we are ensuring these colleagues are receiving transition support. And an opportunity to apply for other critical roles within the company." Luciano said the elimination of these "non-critical" positions could save ADM more than half a billion dollars over the next three to five years.
Mayor Moore Wolfe said that the city was working on providing community resources to any ADM employees who were laid off. "We are in a better position to help those folks that are laid off find new jobs," Moore Wolfe explained. "Hopefully we are going to be able to help people get into new positions in this community and move on to their next chapter."
