DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) -Â The Decatur Fire Department was called out for a fire at First United Methodist Church Thursday night.Â
When crews arrived in the 200 block of W. North St. at 10:40 p.m. to find a fire at the rear of the church on the Southeast corner near an exit.
The fire started in a 2-story wooden structure attached to the brick exterior of the church. The fire engulfed the entire wooden structure.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire and checked the inside of the church. The fire did not extend into the church. However, smoke was throughout the building.
No damage was done to the interior of the church.
Exterior damage is estimated to be $10,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
