DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Decatur's Caterpillar plant has been exporting machines and equipment across the country for nearly 70 years.
The process from getting those pieces of metal and turning them into a Wheel Tractor Scraper, isn't as simple as you might think.
WAND got a behind-the-scenes look at Caterpillar's Test Track. The track is one of the most important features at the plant, where engineers provide meticulous tasks to make sure equipment is running smoothly.
Senior Director of Manufacturing Operations Gaurav Parekh, said making these machines run smoothly is their top priority for job sites.
"The test track runs nonstop. And whether in every weather condition, we continue to test our machines, whether the rain, snow or shine, and, and the protocol is followed every single day. Making sure we are not passing on any defects to our customers is our goal. And that's what we aspire to with under strict process."
