DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Danville School District 118 named a new superintendent Tuesday.
John Hart, who had been serving as interim superintendent since February, had the interim tag removed at Tuesday's school board meeting. The vote was unanimous, 6-0.
According to the district's website, Hart has been with the district for more than two decades, serving as a teacher, principal, director, and assistant superintendent. Hart is an Eastern Illinois University graduate.
Hart said his focus at the elementary level will be to, "... focus on the whole child - both academically and social-emotionally." Hart said he wants to focus on more choices in STEM and AVID programs for upper elementary students. At the high school level, Hart said he wants the focus to be on preparing students for their futures, "... with knowledge, skills, resiliency, and self-confidence."
Hart replaces Alicia Geddis who reached a separation agreement with the district after being placed on paid administrative leave following months of working remotely. Geddis had previously cited security issues as her reason for remote work.
The board also unanimously approved promoting Markesha Parker to Assistant Superintendent. She was previously the district's Assistant Director of Human Resources.
