CHARLESTON, Ill. (WAND) - Eastern Illinois University will partner with the Charleston Unit School District #1 (CUSD1) to provide temporary accommodations for local middle schoolers.
Charleston Middle School suffered serious structural damage from an EF-2 tornado that struck the city June 17.Â
The partnership's framework will be discussed during a special board of education meeting Wednesday evening.
If approved, EIU's Coleman Hall would provide space for students beginning on Aug. 1.
"By working collaboratively, CUSD1 and EIU will minimize disruptions to learning and confidently ensure our CMS families and their students will have a safe, welcoming place to begin the school year," said CUSD1 Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Kristen Holly in a statement.
