DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A fast moving fire has damaged several structures just west of Decatur Wednesday afternoon.

Several fire departments responded to South Lincoln Memorial Parkway next to I-72.

Drone video captured by WAND News shows several acres burned including an old barn and at least two other structures. The buildings are not identifiable and have burned to the ground. Several tractor trailers and a box truck are in the middle of the fire area but it's not clear if they were damaged.

Decatur fire 3-12-25

Smoke erupts from a building in west Decatur on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Earlier Wednesday, black smoke was pouring from the property and could be seen for miles.

First responders told WAND News that one person who lives nearby evacuated earlier this afternoon.

As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters had extinguished most flames and were working to prevent the fire from spreading any farther on the ground.

While there are prescribed burns happening in Decatur this week, this is unrelated.

It's not clear what started the fire.
