CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - People who serve on juries in Champaign County will soon have access to free mental health services following their service.

The Champaign County judiciary is working with Katie Martin Therapy of Savoy to provide one 30-minute session free of charge after jury duty has finished to jurors who feel anxiety, stress, or trauma related to their service.

The judiciary said that "because jury duty is not a choice, the Court feels the responsibility to assist jurors who do suffer trauma to, at least, help them connect with a therapist at no charge to the juror."

This will not be actual counseling but a chance to provide the juror with safety and stability, giving them support for immediate needs and helping find additional resources if necessary. The therapist will work with the juror to give recommendations or referrals and work with their finances.

The Court will notify jurors at their orientation and give information in jury rooms that, if they feel they need to speak to a therapist after their jury duty is done, they can do so at no charge. They will be provided in the jury room with a QR code to scan to type in their name and contact information. The information will be sent confidentially to the Court (to confirm jury service) and to Katie Martin Therapy. A therapist will then try to reach out to the juror within 24 hours.

The program is set to start October 20, 2025.
