CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Several Central Illinois robotics teams are advancing to the state tournament next month.
Champaign-Urbana's two challenge robotics teams have earned spots at the 2026 FIRST Tech Challenge state championship.
The students competed against 31 teams from across the region.
Ctrl-Y finished fourth overall, while Ctrl-X finished in sixth.
Ctrl-X's finish was especially notable as eight of its 12 team members were rookies.Â
Supreme Scream Bros from Decatur and DCS MechWarriors from Forsyth also qualified.
Ctrl-Y was second runner-up for the Inspire Award, recognizing outstanding robot design, innovation and community outreach.Â
The two-day FIRST Tech Challenge Illinois Championship Tournament will take place in DeKalb on Mar. 6 and 7.Â
