(WAND) — Caterpillar Inc. announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to use artificial intelligence to drive innovation within the industry. Caterpillar said AI will transform how work gets done for the company's customers, dealers and employees.

The NVIDIA Jetson Thor platform allows for real-time AI inference on Cat construction, mining and power equipment. Caterpillar said the upgrade will lay the foundation for autonomy and intelligent in-cab experiences for their machines.

For example, the platform will allow for in-cab AI features that will feature an "intelligent operator assistant" that can give customers advice, real-time coaching, productivity tips and safety alerts.

Caterpillar also said they will debut the Cat AI Assistant, which will be embedded in Cat digital and onboard products to help customers. The assistant will answer questions and give personalized recommendations on equipment, parts and maintenance.

The assistant can also help operators in the machine cabs by using voice activation to enable settings, troubleshoot and connect users to resources across Cat apps an websites.

Caterpillar will also use NVIDIA Omniverse technology to build physically accurate digital copies of its factories. The company can use the copies to design, simulate and optimize factory layouts and production processes before building them in the real world.
