(WAND) - Central Illinoisians will not receive a break from the heat this coming week, and will similarly not experience much relief from their power bill.

Ameren Illinois warned customers of this in the spring after saying that bills could be 20-22% higher for the average customer this summer. 

"The prices in turn are intended to drive more generators—renewable and traditional generators—to come into the market and offer more supply to help bring those prices down over time. That's how it's intended to work," said Matt Tomc, VP of Regulatory Policy at Ameren. 

Ameren officials said costs should return to normal in October.
