DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - While some businesses in Danville are experiencing closures and layoffs, a redevelopment approval from city council aims to provide opportunities for economic growth and jobs.

"We anticipate that that will be a loss of around 220 jobs," said Mayor Rickey Williams Jr.

Hyster-Yale Group is a large distribution company in Danville with 50 years of operation, but the company will relocate to Indiana by the end of 2026. A similar company, McLane Midwest, announced downsizing its staff, but Mayor Rickey Williams said the city is taking steps to attract new businesses with two major redevelopments.

"One is a family entertainment center and restaurant in the central part of town. And the other is for a new restaurant on the northern part of the town," Williams said.

The former Carle Medical clinic on Fairchild St. will be revamped into an indoor trampoline park with family fun activities. The Red Lobster will be demolished and built as a Chick-fil-A or Chipotle. The Golden Nugget Casino is bringing major economic growth to the city.

"$300,000 a year in annual payments, in addition to the million dollars, $3 million that we received upfront. That does not even include the economic benefits of two more than 200 new jobs, the more than $2 million a year in additional tax revenue that we received from the casino," Williams said.

As the city is preparing for the distribution center to depart, Williams hopes the new plans give the community hope for the future.
