Dog sitting during therapy session

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The state of Illinois has expedited the process of requesting a therapy dog to provide comfort during a time of need.

The Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board has created a 24/7 hotline and email address for communities to reach certified therapy dog teams statewide.

According to the state, therapy dog teams through the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Crisis Response Therapy Canine Certification Program can be requested for many different situations, including community healing events, public safety outreach, wellness events and school support.

The number is 773-67-43647, and the email is CITIllinoisTherapyK9@Illinois.gov

More information on the program is available online.
