SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Big changes are on the way as the Lincoln Library in Springfield won a $1 million community project funding grant.

The grant comes from the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the money is expected to pay for a new youth, adult and children's space.

The Springfield City Council took the first step Tuesday evening in accepting the money from the federal government.

"It's going to give us an opportunity to totally renovate our youth services department, and it includes great changes for our teen population. They're going to get a lot of good spaces to be teenagers, that's going to be for them," said Lincoln Library Director Gwen Harrison.

The grant will also cover new offices for staff and security.

Construction is expected to be completed within nine months.
