RANKIN, Ill. (WAND) — Police arrested a man in connection to the disappearance of a Rankin resident last year.

According to the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department, police arrested 56-year-old Johnny Gibson of Peoria for the July 2024 murder of Frank Lucas.

Lucas was reported missing on July 11, 2024. Investigators determined that he was likely murdered and developed Gibson, a former neighbor of Lucas, as a suspect.

On Monday, October 20, police found human remains believed to be Lucas in rural Champaign County. The Illinois State Police crime lab is working to positively identify the remains.

Gibson was arrested at his home and charged with murder, dismembering a human body and concealing a homicidal death. He is being held in the Vermilion County Jail.
