PARIS, Ill. (WAND) — A popular fast food chain in one Edgar County town was forced to close temporarily Saturday after a carbon monoxide leak.
According to Paris Fire Chief Zack Janis, the Paris Fire Department responded to the Taco Bell at 528 E. Jasper St. in Paris for reports of a gas odor from inside the business.
Firefighters used a gas detection meter and found elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the building.
Two employees who were in the Taco Bell at the time were evacuated as a "precautionary safety measure," Janis said.
Janis said that an investigation found the cause was a malfunctioning hood ventilation system.Â
The fast-food restaurant will be closed until repairs are made. According to Janis, the store's supervisor and manager on scene said they were immediately contacting a service company to make the needed repairs.
It is unclear how long the store will be closed, but Janis said the store manager would call him when the restaurant is able to reopen.
