SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A firefighter will need surgery after he was injured while battling a fire near Springfield Saturday.
According to Springfield Fire Fighters Local 37, crews responded to a barn on fire in the 4000 block of Tuxhorn Road just after 7 p.m.
At around 7:30 p.m., the department gave an update that a firefighter was injured at the scene during overhaul operations.
He was taken to the hospital with an injured knee that will require surgery.
SFD said he should make a full recovery but will be off work for a substantial amount of time.
