URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — A fire in a steam tunnel was put out under a building on the University of Illinois campus Friday.

The Urbana Fire Department responded to the Transportation Building at about 12:20 p.m.

According to the department, crews saw smoke coming from the steam tunnel behind the building when they arrived. Firefighters went into the tunnel and found a fire.

About 20 Urbana Fire Department personnel responded and were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes. Crews were on scene for about two hours.

Nobody was injured and the tunnels and surrounding buildings remained under a fire watch as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
