CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A teen was injured in a Champaign shooting that prompted a lockdown of Parkland College's extended campus on Wednesday.
Champaign police responded just before 11:30 a.m. March 4 along Mattis Avenue for a reported shooting with injuries.
Police found a 15-year-old shot with non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to a local hospital and are expected to be okay.Â
CPD found evidence of the shooting near the area of Winston Drive and Summit Ridge Road.
According to a police investigation, the teen was walking in the area when a suspect or multiple people opened fire and shot him. The teen left the area and called for help.
The suspect or suspects also ran away before the police arrived, and the reason for the shooting is unknown.Â
Parkland College's extended campus reopened following a lockdown due to the shooting.
All afternoon classes scheduled on the Mattis campus were canceled. The school said evening classes that began at 5 p.m. or later will continue as scheduled. Additionally, offices on the campus reopened.Â
Parkland on Mattis initially entered a lockdown around noon, according to the college.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.Â
