URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — The city of Urbana is now accepting applications for funding to help low-income homeowners who need emergency and accessibility repairs.

Repair programs include emergency repair grants up to $10,000 per home, emergency roof repair grants up to $15,000 per home, emergency sewer repair grants up to $15,000 per home, and accessibility grants up to $10,000 per home.

To qualify, households must be within 80% of the median family income as determined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Emergency repairs must address a condition that poses an immediate health or safety risk to homeowners, according to the city. Accessibility grants are meant to eliminate physical barriers to people with disabilities.

The grants are federally funded and available while funds last.

Applications can be completed online on the city of Urbana website. Paper applications are also available in-person in the community development services office in Urbana city hall. They can also be mailed upon request by calling 217-328-8277 or emailing grants@urbanail.gov
