DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Governor JB Pritzker announced a new statewide legal resource and a first-of-its-kind legal LGBTQIA+ hotline.

The partnership is between the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Legal Council for Health Justice and other community organizations.

Executive Director for the Legal Council for Health Justice Julie Justicz told WAND News, "It's a new, statewide resource for members of the LGBTQIA+ community and family members to help answer the questions and concerns, particularly in response to increased attacks, federal executive orders and changing laws."

The hotline is called ILPrideConnect. It includes legal FAQs, information about what rights you have, referrals to legal services and advocacy tools.

"Some of the area's folks can connect to where to find gender affirming care, information about getting a passport, or getting a state REAL-ID in Illinois," Justicz said. "What happens if my landlord discriminates against me? What happens if my school tells me that I can no longer participate in sports?"

Justicz said her office continues to get more and more calls from people who need help or have questions.

"Our own calls have been increased significantly, particularly in the areas of name changes, gender affirming care, access to health insurance and coverage," Justicz said
