Man with document, paperwork,

TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Someone impersonating a health inspector attempted to conduct an inspection at a business in Christian County.

The Christian County Health Department warned residents about the incident in which a person unaffiliated with the department tried to conduct an inspection.

In a release, the department said that official inspectors will always provide identification and that businesses can follow these steps when encountering an inspector they're unfamiliar with:

1. Ask For Identification: Inspectors should always have a badge and government-issued ID. If they can't provide this, you don't have to allow them to proceed with the inspection.

2. Call the Health Department: If there is doubt about the inspector's legitimacy, contact your health department to confirm the inspection.

3. Call Local Authorities: If you suspect someone is impersonating an inspector, call your local police department.
