SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A Springfield man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for bank robbery. 

Javon Young, 25, will also have to serve three years of probation after being released and pay over $5,000 in restitution to the bank. 

Police said they responded at about 10:20 a.m. December 10, 2021, to Security Bank, located at 2500 Stevenson Drive. They said they learned a suspect came in, forcefully grabbed a teller by the shirt and demanded money. 

Officers said Young fled on foot from the bank with an undetermined amount of cash.

At the time of the robbery, Young was already serving a term of supervised release for a previous charge of interference with commerce by threat or violence. 

Young was indicted on January 19, 2022. He pled guilty on July 31, 2023. Young has been in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since January 2022.

The statutory penalties for Bank Robbery are up to 20 years imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
