SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A State Senate Republican bill to require gluten free training for hospitality workers passed unanimously out of the Senate.

The training would include how to handle gluten free food, learn about celiac disease and how to properly clean the kitchen to avoid gluten contamination.

State Sen. Sally Turner (R-Lincoln) wants lawmakers not to loaf around with this bill.

"The bill I have proposed amends the allergen awareness training statute, by including gluten, which has a lot to do with celiac disease," Turner said. "That training would be included in the requirements for food service training."

With the proposal passing the Senate, it will now head to the House floor, where lawmakers could talk about it in the coming weeks.
