CHICAGO (WAND) — Former Illini standout Terrence Shannon Jr. spoke to the media for the first time since being charged with rape in Kansas at the end of 2023.
Shannon and fellow Illinois alum Coleman Hawkins were present at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago this week.
Hawkins participated in drills on Monday night, while Shannon opted out.

On Tuesday morning Shannon met with the media, a rare occurrence since first being charged in Douglas County Kansas in December.

During the newser, he declined to comment on the legal matter itself, but he did express how difficult the last five months have been for him personally. He said that balancing the draft process and the legal process has been especially challenging.
He's due back in court for the week of June 10, while the NBA Draft will take place on June 26-27. If found not guilty, it would create an avenue for him to be drafted.
