CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Four Illini, including three newcomers, scored in double figures as the Illinois men's basketball team topped ISU 92-65 in a preseason exhibition.
Freshman David Mirkovic posted a double-double, with game highs of 19 points and 14 rebounds. Alongside him, freshman Brandon Lee shot a perfect 5-5 from the floor to score 17 points. Junior Arkansas transfer Zvonimir Ivisic tacked on 15 points and five rebounds, while returning senior guard Kylan Boswell dropped 14 points and tallied six assists.
A 34-10 scoring run in favor of Illinois began roughly 5 minutes into the first half. At the break, the Illini led 47-24. Teams would trade blows throughout the second frame, though Illinois' lead never dropped lower than 20 points.
Illinois shot 52% from the floor, including a 39% performance from beyond the 3-point arc. Defensively, the Illini limited the Redbirds to 40% shooting and 28% from long range.
The Illini will begin their regular season in just over two weeks, welcoming Jackson State to the State Farm Center on November 3 at 7:30pm.
