FORSYTH, Ill. (WAND) - The second annual Officer Chris Oberheim Baseball Memorial Tournament has kicked off in Forsyth.
Hosted June 5 to 7, the tournament will welcome 33 teams from across Illinois to honor Oberheim.
Oberheim was killed on May 19, 2021, while responding to a call in Champaign.
Proceeds from the event continue to support the Illinois Chapter, Concerns of Police Survivors (IL COPS), helping provide support and resources to families and co-workers of fallen officers.
"What started as a way to remember Chris has grown into something that brings people together," said tournament organizer Kelsey Washburn. "We want teams and families to leave with more than memories of baseball. We want them to leave remembering why we gather, who we honor, and the impact one person can continue to make years later.”
Community members are encouraged to attend throughout the weekend, support participating teams, explore activities and help continue honoring Oberheim’s life and service.
Tournament details, schedules, activities and updates can be found on the tournament's Facebook page.
