DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Working to make Decatur a more welcoming place.

The Beautify Decatur Coalition is starting a new "Adopt a Median" program.

The program is similar to the "Adopt a Highway" initiative and will involve taking care of a median to help make the city look better.

Adoptees will have to sign a contract with the city before adopting, and can maintain it through landscaping it themselves or by contracting a company.

Adopt a Median Coordinator Jason White said initiatives like these will give the city a better outlook for job seekers.

"We just want it to look really welcoming when people are coming into town for the first time, or returning and they notice a difference. Just companies when they're trying to recruit employees here, and we're giving them tours and trying to convince them to come here and take a job and live here. We want it to look really nice," White said.
