(WAND) — Communities across central Illinois are preparing events for Juneteenth, the federal holiday that recognizes the end of slavery in the United States.

Springfield
2024 marks the 30th Juneteenth Celebration in Springfield. The City will celebrate with a week full of events:
June 12 - Springfield's Public Library talent showcase at 5:30pm
June 13 - Levitt Amp will hold a special Juneteenth performance from Curley Taylor & Zydeco Trouble in downtown Springfield as part of their summer concert series
June 14 - The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library will be hosting a Lunch and Learn Community Panel discussing black citizenship in the Land of Lincoln
June 14 - The Illinois State Museum will be celebrating Juneteenth with a Museum Party from 10am-2pm
June 14 - Mr. & Mrs. Juneteenth will be crowned at a pageant show at Southeast High School Auditorium
June 15 - The celebration kicks off at 10am with the annual Juneteenth parade and continues at Comer Cox Park throughout the day.
June 15 - Morris Day and Time headline the celebration at Comer Cox Park with free concert at 7pm.
June 15 - A Car & Bike show will take place at American Legion Post 809 just across the street from Comer Cox Park
June 15, 17, 18, & 19- The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library will have a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln on display for public viewing.
June 15 & 19 - The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum will host "The Nature of Freedom: A literary commemoration of Juneteenth" with performances during the daytime on June 15th. On June 19th, the museum will offer free admission as well as a daytime & evening performance
June 16 - The second day of the celebration at Comer Cox Park begins with a special 10am church service at the park.
June 17Â - will feature a Stop the Violence Community Panel held at One in a Million Inc.
June 18 - Fun youth day camp will be offered at Route History from 10am-3pm
June 18 - The ALPLM hosts Author Annette Gordon Reid to discuss her book "On Juneteenth" at 6pm
June 19 - In honor of Juneteenth, Lincoln Land Community College is hosting their second annual Freedom Walk. The walk is 1.25 miles around the campus and participants are encouraged to wear Juneteenth colors, red, green, gold, and black.
June 19 - Lifting up our future leaders! Attend Juneteenth, Inc.'s 1st Annual Future Leaders Juneteenth Breakfast. Breakfast will be held at the Trutter Center at Lincoln Land Community College. Individual tickets and table are sold on EventBrite
June 19 - The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum is offering free admission.
June 19 - In honor of Juneteenth, Henson Robinson Zoo is inviting everyone to celebrate as a community and connect with nature. The zoo will be offering free admission for all ages.
Decatur
Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration at the Devon Lakeshore Ampitheater: June 16 / 2 – 6 p.m.
Champaign-Urbana
Juneteenth 2024: Reflections and Reverence Ceremony 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 14 at Urbana City Hall.
Champaign Park District and Public Library host Juneteenth Celebration: June 15, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., at Douglass Park.
