DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Scovill Zoo is looking for volunteers ahead of its 2026 season.
The zoo said volunteers help by giving guided tours, operating the carousel, running the express train, giving mobile zoo presentations, and helping with special events like Boo at the Zoo!
Scovill Zoo offers a training program to prepare volunteers for their roles. The program is about 8 weeks long, with volunteers taking classes focused on biology review, zoology and conservation.
Training sessions will be held on Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. starting February 4. They will be in the Scovill Zoo Education Center. Additional training will be provided for anyone interested in mobile zoo presentations and animal handling.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, and a background check is required.
For more information or to sign up, volunteers are asked to contact the zoo's education and volunteer coordinator at 217-421-7436 or evanert@decparks.com.
