TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — The Taylorville Police Department said that a 14-year-old student is in custody after a threat of violence was made to Taylorville High School Wednesday.

According to an email sent to parents by Superintendent Brandi Bruley, the student who made the threat has been identified by Taylorville police as a 14-year-old girl who could face legal action. The email said law enforcement has assured the school that students and staff are safe.

The Taylorville Police Department told WAND News that the girl who made a threat to the school was moved to a juvenile detention facility and charged with terrorist acts towards a school, adding that the state attorney approved those charges.

Taylorville police also told WAND that the department has debunked any other threats towards the school and determined that she was alone.

This is an ongoing investigation.
