DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Decatur Public Schools has officially selected Nicole Nash Moody as its new superintendent.

The DPS Board of Education formally voted on Moody's appointment during its Tuesday evening meeting.

"It is not about me or my career at all. It's about our children, our staff and our city who have a hope and expectation that our school district leadership will collaboratively join forces to continue on the path of creating and enhancing a safe, supportive and healthy learning and working environment," Moody said.

Nash Moody will replace current superintendent Rochelle Clark, who announced her retirement in October 2024.

Moody's contract will begin July 1 and end on June 30, 2029. Her annual salary will be $237,500.

From financial challenges to decreased student enrollment, Moody is hopeful that communication with financial staff will yield solutions.

"Even in the fiscal times that we are in, we do have resources. We just have to use those wisely. We have to prioritize those resources. There are great things in place here in Decatur," Moody said.

As a leader, she said accountability is key.

"Accountability means doing what you said you're going to do. And that starts with me. And if I'm not able to do what I said I'm going to do, I will have a reason as to why and have a plan as to how to make it better," Moody said.

Moody said schools uplift the community, and she intends to pour into the community through education.
