DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A former Sangamon County deputy on trial for the murder of a Springfield woman in her own home has been moved to Macon County.
Sean Grayson, charged for the murder of Sonya Massey, was previously being held at the Menard County Jail.
On Monday, Grayson appeared by video in a short hearing in Sangamon County Court. His attorneys have been arguing for pre-trial release based on his diagnosis of colon cancer. In August, Judge Ryan Cadagin chose to deny Grayson pre-trial release, but his team has appealed the decision with an appellate court.
Body-worn camera footage was released from a 911 call that showed Grayson shooting Massey during an exchange over a pot of water in her home on July. After the shooting, he failed to give Massey medical help.
It's not stated why Grayson was moved to Macon County, but jail records show that he is in protective custody.
His next hearing regarding pre-trial release is set for early December.
