(WAND) — With another snowstorm bringing several inches of snow across central Illinois, multiple county and city governments have declared snow emergencies.
The city of Springfield declared a snow emergency for designated snow routes. It went into effect at 7 a.m. Saturday morning and will end at noon on Tuesday, December 16.
Residents and businesses are also encouraged to keep their sidewalks clear. All sidewalks adjacent to properties need to be cleared of snow by 10 a.m. each morning following a snow event, according to a city ordinance. If the sidewalk is not clear, the property owner is subject to a $250 fine.
The village of Mt. Zion declared a snow emergency until 12 p.m. Sunday, December 14. Parking is prohibited on all village streets. Anyone who parks on the streets can be towed and fined.
The city of Danville is warning drivers and pedestrians of possible hazards while traveling Saturday and Sunday. The city said residential plowing could be delayed as snow plows focus on clearing higher-traffic roads and emergency routes.
Danville also said as temperatures drop on Saturday night into Sunday, salt may be less effective, and roads could stay snow-covered throughout the weekend. Crews will deploy grit for traction instead of salt.
