DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Macon County first responders are answering the call to service this weekend to help the Salvation Army.
The annual Guns and Hoses bell ringing event will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, and Saturday, Dec 13, at both Decatur area Walmarts.
Guns and Hoses is an annual competition between police, fire and EMS workers in Decatur and Macon County to see who will raise the most money for the Salvation Army.Â
This year's bell ringing locations and participating departments/offices for both Friday and Saturday are as follows:
- Macon County Sheriff's Office - Walmart East, pharmacy door
- Decatur Police Department - Walmart East, food door
- Macon County Fire Departments - Walmart North, food door
- Decatur Fire Department - Walmart North, pharmacy door
"... It gives people a good feeling at the Christmas season. The one thing that you always enjoy is hearing those bells outside stores, and we think it's a great way to give back; it's a very easy way to give back," said Jeff Daly of the Salvation Army.
