DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The residents of a two and a half story home have been displaced and a cat is dead after the home caught fire in Decatur Saturday morning.

The Decatur Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1700 block of North Church Street around 3:30 a.m.

Crews arrived and saw a fire coming from a rear first floor window. Occupants outside told firefighters they believed a woman was trapped in a second floor bedroom.

Crews did a search but did not find anyone. It was later determined that the woman was not home during the fire.

DFD said the house was split into two apartments, making the fire more labor intensive, but it was brought under control quickly.

Nobody was hurt but a cat was found dead. The people living in the home were displaced and are being helped by the Red Cross.

The fire is still under investigation.
