DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)- A man from Macon County was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity, on Monday.

Medical professionals have concluded that Scott Walston suffered a severe schizophrenic episode when he killed Michael Cox in May 2023.

The 33-year-old was found dead on North Oakley Road in rural Oakley. Two children witnessed the murder and identified Walston.

Doctors stated that Walston's mental condition was so poor that he could not understand he was committing a crime at the time. He will be sent to the Department of Human Services for evaluation and will remain in the agency's custody for 60 years.
