SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A Springfield man has been arrested for an overnight shooting that killed another man over the weekend.

Ventellis B. Cooper, 48, was arrested on Tuesday for the murder of 39-year-old Antoine Williams.

Williams was found in the front seat of a car in the area of 17th and Cook Street around 1 a.m. Oct. 13. He had been shot multiple times. Williams was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive.

Cooper made his first appearance on charges of first degree murder, aggravated unlawful use of a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. His next court date is Oct. 31.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
