WATSEKA, Ill. (WAND) — The police shooting of a man who shot and killed a Newton County, Indiana Sheriff's deputy has been ruled as justified.
Iroquois County State's Attorney Jim Devine released a statement regarding the shooting of Andrew Roselius, a 37-year-old man from Ashkum, Ill.

On Sept. 1, the Iroquois County Sheriff's Department, Illinois State Police, Newton County, Indiana Sheriff's Department and the Kentland, Indiana Police Department responded to a report of an alleged kidnapping in progress.
Roselius' vehicle was identified in rural Iroquois County and officers at the scene tried to stop the vehicle. Roselius continued to travel into Indiana, and then back to Illinois when he hit another vehicle on the road outside the village of Sheldon, Ill.
According to the release, officers approached the vehicle and told Roselius to show his hands and get out. After being told multiple times, he pulled out a revolver and fired one shot, hitting Corporal Brandon Schreiber of the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
An Iroquois County Deputy returned fire at Roselius and struck him in the head.
Roselius was pronounced dead at the scene and Schreiber died at the hospital ten days later on Sept. 11.
Illinois State Police conducted an investigation and submitted the information to the Iroquois County State's Attorney's Office.
Iroquois County State's Attorney Jim Devine ruled the shooting as justified. No further action will be taken by the office.
