The City of Sullivan declared a water emergency on Wednesday due to ongoing drought conditions.

SULLIVAN, Ill. (WAND) - The City of Sullivan declared a water emergency on Wednesday due to ongoing drought conditions.

According to the City's Facebook page, the water emergency goes into effect immediately and will remain in effect until March 1. 

Water restrictions will only be limited to non-essential use, and residents are urged to conserve water. 

Residents are urged not to water their lawns, fill swimming pools, or personally wash their cars during this time. 

The City said that anyone violating the restrictions can be fined up to $750 per offense. 

Sullivan is the largest city in Moultrie County and is just over 30 minutes from Decatur.
