DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Good Samaritan Inn received a $20,000 grant given out through the Charitable Trust Stabilization program.
The inn provides free meals from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily through their Noon Meal program. They grow fresh produce for those meals as well as local food pantries at their Mercy Gardens.
They also run the Mercy Market, which features produce from the gardens as well as goods from local farmers and vendors. The market is open every Saturday from June to October, and 100% of the proceeds go towards the gardens and the Noon Meal program.
The Charitable Trust Stabilization program, run by the Illinois State Treasurer's office, is giving out a combined $200,000 in grants to 10 Illinois nonprofits.
The next wave of grants will go toward food and housing related nonprofits. The application period opens in July and closes at the end of September.
