URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The Urbana Park District announced is has been chosen to get a $600,000 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development grant from the State of Illinois. 

The King Park Revitalization Project will make the park inclusive and accessible for gatherings and recreation. 

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources awarded a total of $36 million to 67 communities for local park development projects as part of the latest round of OSLAD grants. 

OSLAD is a cost-sharing program between state and local governments that helps communities fund land acquisition and development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. 

The King Park Revitalization project is a $1.2 million investment. Project funding includes the Open Space Land Acquisition an d Development grant $600,000 award and Urbana Park District's local match of $600,000. 

King Park is located at 915 W. Wascher Dr. in Urbana. 

The current playground is 20 years old and in need of replacement along with other amenities

The grant will be used to create a themed accessible playground, multi-purpose field, expanded shared-use sidewalks, band shelter with performance seating, outdoor classroom/reading circle, rain gardens, full and half-court basketball, teen hangout terrace, challenge course, historic interpretive mural, interpretive signage, ADA parking spaces, angled parking spaces, and entry columns.
