SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul filed a lawsuit against State Farm, alleging that the company refused to provide homeowner's insurance data to the Illinois Department of Insurance (IDOI).

In November 2024, IDOI opened an investigation into State Farm's homeowners insurance policies and premiums. The examination seeks zip-code level nationwide data, including the total premiums collected, types of policy coverage and insurance limits, and number of claims against those policies.

Raoul said State Farm refused to provide the information.

"State Farm's obstruction does not just violate the law. It prevents the Department of Insurance from obtaining information to help make sure all Illinois homeowners are being treated fairly," Raoul said.

Raoul is asking the court to order State Farm to comply with the examination and provide the requested information.

On October 14, State Farm released the following statement

"State Farm complies with all applicable laws and remains committed to working with Illinois regulators. This Illinois taxpayer funded lawsuit is without merit and unrelated to State Farm’s Illinois rates or our Illinois customers.

State Farm has provided the Illinois Department of Insurance all data necessary to support its Illinois insurance rates.

State Farm will continue to proudly serve millions of people in Illinois and work with the Illinois Department of Insurance to benefit Illinois customers on behalf of the more than 21,000 agents, agent team members, and State Farm employees who call Illinois home."
