CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The Champaign Police Department is offering free steering wheel locks to combat vehicle thefts for Kia and Hyundai owners "related to a social media trend."
According to the department, owners must show proof of ownership of Kia vehicles manufactured between 2011-2021 or Hyundai vehicles manufactured between 2013-2021.
Eligible owners are welcome to claim a lock, regardless of where they live.Â
The locks are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Champaign Police Department front desk at 82 E. University Avenue.
