SAVOY, Ill. (WAND) - The Savoy Fire Department will be conducting an ice rescue training Monday night.Â
The training will take place at Colbert Park Pond between 6 and 10 p.m.Â
You may see fire apparatus, personnel in protective gear, and activity near the pond. This is a planned training exercise, and there is no danger to the public.Â
The training allows firefighters to practice specialized techniques used to rescue people who have fallen through ice-covered bodies of water.Â
Crews train with cold-water rescue equipment, ice suits, throw ropes and rescue sleds.Â
The Savoy Fire Department reminds people to avoid walking, skating, or recreating on frozen ponds and lakes unless ice conditions have been professionally evaluated.Â
