CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Champaign-Urbana's two challenge robotics teams have earned spots at the 2026 FIRST Tech Challenge state championship.

The students competed against 31 teams from across the region.

Ctrl-Y finished fourth overall, while Ctrl-X finished in sixth.

Ctrl-X's finish was especially notable as eight of its 12 team members were rookies. 

Ctrl-Y was second runner-up for the Inspire Award, recognizing outstanding robot design, innovation and community outreach. 

The combined 22 team members represent nine local middle and high schools.
